What advantage is there in hiring a foreign worker?
Foreign workers regard this opportunity to work for your firm as an “opportunity” to live in Canada. The foreign worker may not work for any other firm other than yours while in Canada. They have been granted the right to work in Canada specifically for your firm.
Foreign workers offer a dedication, and loyalty seldom seen, imagine accepting more work with confidence. You now have the employees that are not only experienced, but that show up every day with a smile on their face eager to work.
What am I obligated to do, and just how time consuming is the process?
Your obligation ends at being an employer. You must pay foreign workers fairly within the guidelines set out by the Canadian government. The rates are meant as a guideline and have been established to ensure foreign workers are not taken advantage of, and that our local workers are protected from unreasonably low rates for the job at hand.
The process is done by our firm and it takes up to 6 months before the worker/s arrive. The only obligations you have in the process is to ensure information required by the Canadian government is (business number for example) relayed. Your signature is required on a few forms to ensure the information given is correct. The worker must be a full time employee and source deductions along with WCB must be remitted. They are to be treated as any other employee within Canada. You are not obligated to pay any travel fees (some low skill positions being the exception), or accommodation related fees.
Any fees you have agreed to pay North American are clearly outlined for services rendered.
Can I terminate this 2 year agreement?
Yes, however we do ask that you give us 30 days written notice. You may terminate the agreement. We will do our best to find employment elsewhere for the worker/s prior to having to leave Canada. Workers are expecting to work for a period of 2 years, and we feel morally bound to do our best to ensure this is a viable arrangement prior to accepting either the worker or prospective employer into “The Experienced Foreign Workers Program”.
Can the workers speak English?
In answer to this: yes and no. We ask that safety instructions are sent to our firm to ensure training is conducted in the workers home country prior to arrival. This gives everyone the advantage of knowing “safety” for all is given serious due diligence. A workers fluency in English depends on the individual worker, and the country they are coming from. The majority of foreign workers have “some” English, but is not something you should assume. The applicants and skills required for the majority of workers have been specifically selected for the program to ensure that workers can easily “step into” a job they have the experience in. The workers have the skills for the job, and communication is usually worked out quickly by worker and employer. |
